One question: where is the slack in the chain taken up if you adjust the overall bike length to suit a shorter rider?

The rear derailleur can take up quite a bit of slack, so moving the cranks back a few inches is easy. More than that would require shortening the chain. I used almost 3 full regular chains, and they’re joined with KMC Missing Links, currently spaced randomly along the 14′ length.
If I move them closer to each other, say clustered over a 10″ span, shortening the chain in chunks to suit the max, med, and min positions would be trivial.
